ECW Results 08-19-08

Matt Striker and Todd Grisham are behind the announce table tonight and say that tonight there will be a rematch as Matt Hardy will battle ECW Champion Mark Henry.

Jim Morrison & The Miz & Chavo Guerrero Vs Evan Bourne & Super Crazy & Tommy Dreamer

Bam Neely escorted Chavo Guerrero to the ring. Jim Morrison started the match off against Super Crazy. Super Crazy ends up tagging in Evan Bourne after battling it out with Morrison for a while. Morrison controls Evan Bourne and takes him to his corner to tag in the Miz. Miz goes up to the top turnbuckle as Morrison is holding Bourne. Bourne gets out of Morrison's hold and kicks Morrison then does an impressive move as he leaps into the air and locks his legs into Miz's neck and flips the Miz into the ring. Bourne then punches Chavo off of the ring side corner but Bam Nelly from outside of the ring pulls Bourne's leg to knock Bourne down. Miz, Chavo and Morrison all take their turns working on Evan Bourne as they keep him in their corner. Bourne eventually is able to put a few moves on the Miz and escape to make a tag to Tommy Dreamer. Dreamer comes in and works on the Miz then goes to the corner, knocks Chavo Guerrero to the ring side and then flips Jim Morrison into the ring. Tommy Dreamer dominates and cleans house as before you know it Morrison and Miz and Chavo are all thrown outside of the ring. Super Crazy then dives over the ropes and lands on Miz and Morrison. Evan Bourne then got in the act as he did a moonsault off of the corner and landed on Bam Neely and Chavo Guerrero. Dreamer threw the Miz back into the ring but as he was going in himself Morrison grabbed Dreamer's leg and Miz was able to deliver a vicious Reality Check neckbreaker to win it.

Gavin Spears Vs Ricky Ortiz

Spears had a promo prior to the match saying he is the crown jewel of the ECW superstar initiative because he hasn't something other stars don't, talent. Ortiz managed to fly off the corner ropes to hit a shoulder block on newcomer Spears. Ortiz followed with a move Matt Striker called "The Big O" as he came off the ropes to splash Spears for the pinfall.

Finlay and Hornswoggle came down to the ring and tossed a green hat out to the crowd. Finlay then said that for the pat couple weeks Mike Knox (You know the big bearded guy, cross eyed and ugly) has been telling anyone who will listen that he has gone soft. just because he likes to have a little fun in the ring. He then said that last week he invited Knox into the ring but he refused so he called out Knox telling him to come to the ring and prove his point. Knox came to the top of the ramp with a microphone in hand. Knox said that Finlay is only proving his point and that Finlay is scared of the pressure knowing that he (Knox) can walk up to him any second and take him out and that Finlay can not handle the pressure. Finlay said that the only pressure here is him (Knox) 100 feet away running his mouth. Finlay then told Mike Knox to come on into the ring and prove himself. Knox started down towards the ring, then stopped himself. Knox told Finlay he'll do this on his terms, not when Finlay wants him to put him out of his misery and begins to walk back up the ramp. Finlay said he gave Knox one week to make a move but now he is going to make his. Finlay charged up the ramp and tackled Knox down, punching away at him. The two started going at it with Finlay getting the upper hand until WWE staff and officials separated them near the crowd. Finlay is apparently tired of talking and wants to now show Mike Knox who is soft.

Matt Hardy shown backstage preparing himself for the rematch against Mark Henry for the ECW title.

Highlights were shown from Summerslam, where the Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho feud has escalated. During that incident Shawn Michaels turned to leave and a enraged Chris Jericho went to strike him. Michaels ducked and Jericho punched Michaels' wife Renecca instead. As Jericho exited up the ramp, Michaels attended to his fallen wife Rebecca on the mat.

Highlights are then shown from the Matt Hardy-Mark Henry WCW Championship match from Summerslam. During that match Matt Hardy was seconds away from becoming the new ECW Champion after delivering a Twist of Fate to Henry and going for the pin. Tony Atlas though pulled Hardy out of the ring and started working on him. Jeff Hardy then came out to help his brother Matt out and started working on Tony Atlas. The Hardy brothers even delivered a double suplex to Mark Henry. Matt hardy won the battle as he and Jeff Hardy stood in the ring and Matt hardy was declared the winner of the match as a result of disqualification. Mark Henry though won the war and he still held on to the ECW Championship because a title can not cahnge hands as a result of a disqualification.

ECW GM Teddy Long orders a match for next week to take place between Finlay and Mike Knox.

Matt Hardy Vs Mark Henry (ECW Championship Match)

Matt Hardy made his way to the ring first. Mark Henry comes out next with a big smile, Tony Atlas escorted him. Once in the ring Henry kisses his ECW Championship belt and hold s in up high in the air. Hardy came out taking some shots at Henry's face and went with a quick Twist of Fate but Mark Henry pushed hardy away. Later in the match Henry took control at one point beating Matt around the ring, but after whipping him to the corner, Henry charged at Matt with Matt moving away. As Matt went for a Twist of Fate, Henry pushed him away to the ropes then ran to clothesline him outside the ring. Matt broke free from the hold and got to his feet, but Henry quickly knocked him down. Henry went over to have Tony Atlas (Who was showing his guns tonight) massage his knee which he was favoring. Henry again went for the chinlock, but Matt fought out of it and got to his feet. Henry was quick to knock him down yet again. As Matt got over to the ropes the ref was distracted by Henry talking to him, and Tony Atlas delivered a cheap shot on Hardy. Henry continued to dominate using a bear hug and then a Half Nelson. Matt tried to gain momentum yet again, but was hit by Henry's forearm. Henry then pressed Matt up overhead and dropped him to the mat. Henry went for a huge splash to finish Matt, but Matt moved out of the way, then got to his feet. Matt began to throw punch after punch, flying around the ring. Matt landed an elbow drop off the second rope as well as a flying bodypress. Matt failed to capture the pin twice, then waited for Henry to stand. Matt went for Twist of Fate, but Henry countered to shove Matt away. Matt came off the ropes and quickly hit Twist of Fate and went for the cover and the sure win but Tony Atlas once again like he did at Summerslam came over and saved Mark Henry. Atlas pulled Matt out of the ring. Matt tried for a Moonsault off the top rope, but Henry put a knee up. Henry followed with a Worlds Strongest Slam to finish it. So Matt Hardy has essentially beaten Mark Henry twice but has officially lost both times thanks to Tony Atlas.
